Could the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS rock the Halifax Commons in Mid August?

As we come into a new month, music fans around Atlantic Canada are beginning to wonder what’s next on the Halifax outdoor concert list.

Speculation in recent weeks has pointed to a red hot August – in addition to the above seasonal summer temperatures. Rumours are beginning to buzz about a possible Red Hot Chili Peppers concert date in Halifax.

Sources tell Atlantic Canada Rocks that the California loving group may rock the Halifax Commons around the August 18th weekend.

It was originally speculated that the show could take place on Citadel Hill as Rock The Hill 2012, but it now appears that no major events are planned for the venue this year.

The Peppers have a date in Oakland, California just before the show, followed by a German date on August 25th, making the stop very convenient.

Sources have cautioned that injuries to Lead Vocalist Anthony Kiedis’ foot could be putting a hiccup on the plans but the extent of that remains to be seen. It’s also possible that the show could be planned for September, but outdoor shows in September are a rare occurrence for Atlantic Canada.

Up until this point, the future of shows at the Commons has been uncertain. Many councillors have voiced concern about it’s impact on local residents with respect to traffic flow, though an equal number on the other end agree that the benefits outweigh any inconveniences. The EMERA Oval opened on the venue just before Christmas.

It’s unknown at this point exactly who will be presenting the festival but sources say that MacKay Entertainment will once again be taking the helm. Many have been wondering where Donald K Donald stands when it comes to shows in Halifax, as he has not promoted one in the city since The Rolling Stones in 2006.

One source even went as far as to say the event could be a two day festival, but that negotiations for the second act were not very far along.

It seems as though a deal is nearly signed and we should expect an announcement soon. By the way, while this continues to remain unconfirmed and pure speculation, it seems as though the stars are aligning and fans will be standing in line to see another amazing show this summer.

Stay tuned to ACR as this story continues to develop….
