As we come into the weekend, sources are telling Atlantic Canada Rocks that Metallica is set to play Citadel Hill in Halifax on July 14th.
The band, who has been playing shows as the BIG FOUR along with Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax have a show scheduled in France on July 9th prior to the Halifax date.
Megadeth and Slayer played Atlantic Canada on the Canadian Carnage tour last July.
The rest of the three bands have tour commitments all over the place, so they will not be participating in the Halifax gig.
Sources within the city have confirmed to ACR that the venue is booked solid for the entire week surrounding the date, signalling that a major event is planned.
What is perhaps most interesting is that Harold MacKay is said to be bringing the show. His company, Power Promotional Events went under following concert losses from 2009 and 2010, though it’s been said that MacKay is “actively bidding on shows”.
According to some new details from The Coast, MacKay has been employed by Molson to produce the show for them.
The promoter did not return calls for comment prior to publication.
An outdoor show on a Thursday is not unheard of as AC/DC played that day in 2009, attracting upwards of 70,000. In the summer, the day of the week doesn’t really matter.
While the date still remains unconfirmed, there is a lot of evidence pointing to the show happening on July 14th.
Atlantic Canadians have been waiting years for the day Metallica plays the East Coast stage, I think that day is finally near!
Will you attend the Metallica show in Halifax?
