Today in a little village on Prince Edward Island called Skinner’s Pond, a new center is being made open to the public in honor of a great Canadian singer/songwriter, and fellow PEI native – Stompin’ Tom Connors.

The 1st Annual Stompin’ Tom Festival will kick off the Grand Opening of the Stompin Tom Center on Canada weekend 2017. The warm up event was a Songwriters Circle Friday evening hosted by Cory Gallant beginning at 7pm followed by a jam session and entertainment until midnight.

The Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting and Commemoration Ceremony is from 2pm to 4pm today followed by an outdoor concert from 4pm to 9pm with a lineup of entertainers such as Small Town Jokurs followed by Mike Plume, Billy MacInnis, Tim Hus, Dave Gunning & JP Cormier followed by Fireworks at dusk and a special VIP After Party
Sunday July 2nd another outdoor concert will be kicked off by the Stompin’ Tom Impersonation contest at 2pm followed by another lineup of entertainers until 7pm that in clude Small Town Jokurs, Ivan Daigle, Mike Plume, Billy MacInnis, Tim Hus, Gordie McKeaman & his Rhythm Boys and Matt Minglewood Band.

Released yesterday, just in time for Canada’s 150th birthday was a compilation disc commemorating some of Stompin’ Tom’s greatest and most beloved hits in honor of his 50th Anniversary. It includes a special introduction from NHL Legend and Official Member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, Ken Dryden. Fans will be happy to know that the compilation includes all of Tom’s classics as well as four all-new renditions from notable Canadian artists such as The Cuddy/Polley Family Band, Corb Lund, George Canyon and Whiskey Jack.

I am happy to say that I had the chance to catch up with Corb Lund and Whiskey Jack last week before the compilation’s release to chat about being a part of this project, what it meant to them and also which song they would be covering! Stay Tuned for those!
