Our Lady Peace Rocks Halifax

What do you get when you find Raine Maida, Steve Mazur, Jeremy Taggart and Duncan Coutts on stage, and 2,000 singing and screaming fans? You guessed it, OUR LADY PEACE! The band opened up their re-creation tour at the Cunard Centre in Halifax last night playing 1997s ” Clumsy” plus a second set of tunes from their awesome selection.

I was lucky enough to witness this amazing musical experience from front row, and this is what I saw:

OLP hit the stage shortly after 8pm playing their big hits ” Supermans Dead” and ” Automatic Flowers”. Following this the played a few lesser known, (but loved by fans, including me) songs from the album such as ” Carnival” and ” Big Dumb Rocket” where Maida used a megaphone to alter his voice, which in my opinion was very cool!

Then came the part that gave me, and many other concertgoers goosebumps, the band broke into their mega hit ” 4 am”, it was then that the crowd really participated, cutting off Raine in his vocals by singing along. The whole song was just an amazing experience complete with swaying lighters and singing fans.

They then did a great rendition of ” Shaking” which the crowd really got into, with a little more megaphone thrown in. They then went into the title track from Clumsy which again proved to be one of the greatest moments of the night..

To finish off set one, and the Clumsy album, they played the final tracks ” Let You Down” and ” Car Crash”. I found ” Car Crash” to be another big favourite for me, hearing that song live really managed to change my feeling towards it and make me enjoy it so much more.

” And thats Clumsy” Maida said to the crowd. Following this, the intermission started, lasting about thirty minutes with OLP returning by 9:30pm. This is the point in the show when the lights get wild and the crowd goes insane.

Set two was the set which they played hits from every other album. During this set they played many favourites such as ” Innocent”, ” Life”, ” One Man Army”, ” Somewhere Out There” and ” Naveed”. They also played many great tunes from their latest record including ” All You Did Was Save My Life”, ” Paper Moon”, ” Escape Artist” plus several other great tunes.

Following this, they came out to play a two song encore set, which most notably included ” Starseed” from their first album, this tune to to close the night got the crowd jumping with their hands in the air, and still cheering for more ” OLP! OLP! OLP!” as they departed the Halifax stage for the final time of the night at around 10:45

I honestly can’t find anything negative to say about this show, the whole event was just AMAZING, from ” Supermans Dead” to “Starseed”, there was no better place to be in Halifax last night. I will certainly look forward to the day OLP returns to the Halifax stage, this could be VERY SOON, as they are already back in the studio recording their eighth studio album which could see a release this year! Their last record was released on July 21st 2009.

The OLP Clumsy/ Spiritual Machines re-creation tour will continue to play in Canada and select US Cities until May 22nd before ending in Victoria B.C.
