Maritime music fans love their rock shows, even if things get muddy, the newly named Big Red Music Festival in Charlottetown is so far no exception.
The festival opened last night for it’s first time on the new Charlottetown event grounds with thousands of fans in attendance for some of the world’s greatest musical acts, with something for everyone as far as music genres go.
Paper Lions started off the wet afternoon, but that didn’t stop PEI’s music fans from seeing a local favorite. Performing their new single, “Philadelphia”, it was an excellent first performance on the Big Red Main Stage. Grammy Award winner, Ludacris was the next on the bill, as soon as he hit the stage, he had the crowd at his fingertips waving their hands and singing along with hit, after hit with songs such as, “Stand Up”, “What’s your Fantasy”, and “Get Back!” A performance Luda fans are sure to remember! The highlight of the night that really brought all together was, of course, Canadian Rock powerhouse, Our Lady Peace who never disappoints fans, with songs like “Superman’s Dead”, “4AM”, and “Innocent”, they had the crowd rocking hard and singing at the top of their lungs, myself included.
Unfortunately for Metric fans, due to weather and electrical issues, they had to cancel their performance.
So far, the first ever Big Red Music Festival is off to an amazing start, but the rocking continues through Saturday and Sunday with Hedley, Great Big Sea, and many more. Stay tuned to ACR on the web, Facebook, and Twitter for live updates, recaps, and a full weekend review.
