Yesterday, sources reported to us that Magnetic Hill may not be hosting a show this summer. This report may have caused the City of Moncton’s Manager of parks, Ian Fowler to comment on the issue.
Fowler has told the Times and Transcript that while there has been no announcement, there are still apparently many promoters looking into the site. A concert could still take place between mid August and Mid September. Between the Track and Field championships and the CFL game.
However, he did admit that there are issues getting promoters set on a date, and that as the days go by, chances decrease more and more. Fowler also said that a lack of availability of acts that are touring, and the fact that many aren’t touring at all, have also contributed. Many of the touring acts have also been to Moncton.
“To come out and say we’ll definitely have a show is not something I can do” he told T&T.
“But a lot of these things come together very quickly and then go up and on sale quite quickly,” he says. “So we’ll just pursue it on a day-by-day basis and hopefully in the not-too-distant future be able to solidify something … Our goal is to have a show, and if we don’t get one, we’ll be disappointed, but it won’t be through lack of effort on promoters’ part or on our part.” He says.
Moncton has hosted a large outdoor concert each year at Magnetic Hill since 2005, starting with the Rolling Stones. The following year, country acts Alan Jackson and Brooks & Dunn headlined a show. In 2007, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill graced the stage, followed by The Eagles in 2008. Last year, Bon Jovi and AC/DC each played to thousands of people at separate summer events.
Well, lets hope a show happens, what does everyone think will happen?
