“The biggest Canada Day Party that’s happening right across this country is going to be right here in Charlottetown” could be heard echoing through the Red Shores Racetrack & Casino this morning.
City officials gathered on Wednesday for a press conference to unveil plans for a new music festival entitled Big Red Music Festival, a reference to the celebrations happening over the long weekend from June 28th-July 1st. Previously, this festival was known as Festival of Lights and Charlottetown Summerfest.
Acts will be performing throughout three days and span many genres, artists that have been revealed so far include Metric, Hedley, Great Big Sea, Our Lady Peace, Ludacris, Serena Ryder, Faber Drive, Courage My Love, David Myles, Mo Kenney, and Wildlife. There will also be “Silent Disco” with more details to come.
This will mark the first time the festival will be held at a new venue called the Charlottetown Event Grounds, rather than the previous venue located new Peak’s Wharf. The new area is said to hold over 20,000 people. Previous acts include Meat Loaf, The Tragically Hip and Sam Roberts to name a few.
