New Years Day released their latest album, “Half Black Heart” on Friday, March 1, 2024, and was produced by the renowned studio engineer and producer, Exie Scott (Halestorm, Kemikal Fire) and I don’t think I can say enough good things about this album, as it literally has something for every kind of rock/metal fan.
Fronted by Ash Costello, her powerful vocals and lyrics pack a punch with songs like, “I Still Believe,” “Vampyre,” and the album’s title track, “Half Black Heart,” just to name a few. In addition to this, these songs bring a melodic goth sense, but also showcases powerful guitars riffs paired with bone-crushing breakdowns.
I had the pleasure of talking with Ash about these very topics, and you can view the conversation on our Instagram and Facebook pages now!
When talking about the album in closer detail with Ash, we spoke about the power of the lyrics she writes, specifically and how they resonate with songs like “Half Black Heart” where it sounds like a massive rock anthem that you can scream sing, but it’s all massive “Screw you” to haters and judgmental people. “I Still Believe” was another wonderful example of songs that resonate. Ash is very vocal on mental health awareness and mental health struggles, and this song celebrates people who are fighting hard to overcome, and see the positives in spite of the pain they currently endure.
The track, “Hurts Like Hell”, finished 2022 as one of SiriusXM Octane’s Top 25 songs of the year. Each successive victory is a celebration of hard-fought creative freedom, unstoppable determination, and dedicated fans. Throngs of diehards and newcomers alike sing and sweat along with NEW YEARS DAY, at festivals, in clubs or on tours with HALESTORM, FALLING IN REVERSE, MOTIONLESS IN WHITE, ICE NINE KILLS and IN THIS MOMENT.
