It was an absolutely incredible night of music in Summerside, PEI last night as a packed house at Credit Union Place experienced the greatness that is Bryan Adams on his Ultimate Tour!
With no opening act, the evening was all about Adams and his incredible band (which featured his incredible lead guitarist Keith Scott who wowed the crowd, also provided great backing vocals for the evening). Scott certainly gave Tina Turner a run for her money when he performed backing vocals to the Adams/Turner hit “It’s Only Love.” His incredible band also included Mickey Curry on Drums, Solomon Walker on Bass and Gary Breit on Piano/Keyboards. From the moment Adams stepped on the stage, he had the Summerside crowd in the palm of his hand. With every song he played, the crowd became more and more excited with many standing ovations throughout the night and the entire crowd singing along to every word of every song (myself included). If you were in the crowd last night like I was, you could really tell that this excitement fueled Adams and his band, which made for a completely perfect concert experience for all who attended. One thing that really made it for me was his incredible sound. Even after being in the business for 40+ years, he performed the songs just as if they were played on an album – Perfect sound with his incredibly strong vocals.
The show was a constant string of hit song after hit song that included the massive successes “Summer of 69′.” “Run to You,” “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started,” and “Everything I Do (I Do It For You) .” Sprinkled into the almost 3 hour set were some great new songs as well such as “Ultimate Love” and “Go Down Rockin'” featured exclusively on his latest Greatest Hits album, “Ultimate.”Another beautiful moment of the evening, was the moment towards the end of the show when Adams spoke very fondly of his mother and father . His mother recently suffered a stroke, and he lost his father just two months ago. He performed and dedicated the song “Straight From The Heart” to them. He said that the song (which was another gem for him) was the first song that he had ever written. It was a beautiful moment that had both himself and the crowd in tears.
With a show like last night’s and the caliber of the performance, I have a feeling that Atlantic Canada has not seen it’s last Bryan Adams performance!
