RECAP: Rod Stewart Performs at Cavendish Beach Events Center

… It was a gorgeous evening in Cavendish on Thursday, July 9th – and a perfect evening for a night of great live entertainment provided by none other than PEI fan favorite, Irish Mythen, Dave Mason of Traffic, and of course, the legend himself – Rod Stewart.

The concert was held at the Cavendish Beach Events Centre is Cavendish, Prince Edward Island. Before this, the site was used only for the Cavendish Beach Music Festival, a solely country music festival. For years, concert goers from across Atlantic Canada wondered if the site would ever be used for anything else, and in 2014 Whitecap Entertainment (Cavendish Beach Music Festival/Big Red Music Festival) decided it was time to branch out – and they definitely made the right choice in making that happen.

First act of the day was 2015 ECMA Award winning recording artist, Irish Mythen. This lady since arriving on PEI, has made an incredible name for herself with her incredible music, and a Hell of a voice to back it up. Performing tracks from her latest EP, “Irish Mythen” that garnished her the ECMA title of “Roots/Traditional Recording of the Year” she was the perfect person to begin the festivities!

Up next to the main stage was Dave Mason, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and co-founder of the legendary band Traffic. Dave Mason retraced the earliest days of his career with Traffic and the works that launched his successful solo career. Mason founded Traffic with Steve Winwood while both were still teenagers, and created music that would find its way into the hearts of generations of music lovers. He would go on to establish himself as a successful songwriter, guitarist and solo artist. His audience in Cavendish were delighted to hear his classics and I could see people dancing and singing through the entire set.

The main event of the night was finally here! Rod Stewart finally hit the main stage, and his performance was nothing short of pure entertainment for all ages. With elaborate costumes, a big band sound blended with his raspy vocals on classics like, “Forever Young”, “Rhythm of my Heart”, “Maggie May, “ as well as tracks like “Love Is” from his upcoming release, “Another Country, “ available October 23rd it was clear to see that he had instantly won the entire crowd over and gave a great live performance for all 12,000+ who attended that night. There was not one person sitting, until he asked them to take a seat an relax.  It was a performance not to be forgotten.

Whitecap Entertainment opened the floodgates, so to speak with this live event. Why, you ask?  It’s because now, they’ve proven that with shows like this, and the capacity the grounds of the Cavendish Event Centre can hold, the sky’s the limit in terms of artists that can make their way to the “gentle Isle”. The number of world-class artists who’ve performed on Prince Edward Island has been growing steadily in recent years with performances by Sting, Elton John, and now with Rod Stewart.  It will be very exciting to see who will get the chance to perform there next – and like always – Atlantic Canada Rocks will be there to provide its readers and followers with the latest in news and announcements on any artists that get the chance to visit!

Peace, Love, and Music!
