Canada Day Week… When I think about summertime on PEI during that time, I think of concerts at the Charlottetown Waterfront. They were a constant each year for a long time, that started to fade away for a few years, but thanks to events like Big Red Music Festival (Cancelled for this year) and the brand new Waterfront Concert Series, it seems like Canada Day concerts are on a real comeback in Charlottetown, with incredible artists to boot! Atlantic Canada Rocks had the privilege of attending the first night of this awesome festival and we were thrilled to do so.
Waterfront Concert Series, it the first festival for promoter Mark Fisher, and his company Shift Management. Recently, Shift Management brought hip hop artist, Classified to PEI to perform a very successful New Year’s Eve Party at the Delta Prince Edward, in Charlottetown this past December. Branching out a little further, we now have the Waterfront Concert Series. A two day festival with something for everyone! Night one included two Canadian Classic Music Icons.
Firstly, Max Webster frontman, turned successful solo artist, Kim Mitchell. His performance for night one was incredible. Known for his fantastic ability as a guitar player, he did not disappoint. Opening with “Rock and Roll Duty” – he had the crowd on their feet from the second he started! He also provided a variety of classics in his set with songs performed by his band Max Webster such as “Diamonds, Diamonds”, and “Paradise Skies” and of course classics from his solo career with such Canadian summer music staples as “Patio Lanterns,” “Go For Soda” and “All We Are”. For me personally, seeing Kim Mitchell live was a real treat as he’s been on my bucket list for a long time. I had the chance to sit down with Kim and talk about his career with Max Webster, his solo success, and his most recent role – Radio DJ with Q107 in Toronto! Stay tuned!
The second and final act of night one needed no introduction – April Wine! April Wine sure has had a lot of hits over the years – and you better believe they played them all and rocked the Charlottetown Waterfront! With hits like “Could Have Been a Lady”, “Gypsy Queen” and even a cover of King Crimson’s “21st Century Schizoid Man” – A highlight for many – with guitar and drum solos in between, there was no shortage of pure classic rock that night – and onlookers could not get enough!
We could not be more excited to see which artists Fisher and Co. at Shift Management have in mind for Charlottetown, as I am sure we won’t be disappointed. As always, Atlantic Canada Rocks will always be there to provide you with up to day news and announcements on all artists that come through Atlantic Canada!
Peace, Love and Music!
