Slowcoaster is playing Fredericton tonight at the Capital Complex in Fredericton, and I caught up with bassist Mike Lelievre of the Sydney NS trio before the show for a few updates.

1. What is your favorite song to perform live? Why?
I enjoy all our songs, because we wrote them.

2. What was one of your most memorable shows and what made it memorable?
I think opening for Slash/Aerosmith in our home town was a good time. (Editors note: Cape Fest 2014, Sydney NS)

7. Have you/do you ever plan on going international? Or do you prefer sticking to Atlantic Canada?
We’ve showcased in the states, did a tour in Tokyo and also toured in china. Maybe I’d like to see France, Germany or Mexico, anywhere new is fun. I’d also like to return to Tokyo for another trip. Amazing place. But we live in the maritimes, so that’s our happy place I guess.

8. What are some of your musical influences?
Personally… I listen to all genres and try and take the good parts away from everything I hear. Even so called “bad” music has a part in it that can be appreciated on some level.

9. If you could be part of any line-up with any bands/artists in the world who would you want them to be?
It’s fun to play with anyone, big band, up and comers, whatever. Our list of aquatints from shows is pretty crazy already, but I’m sure there’s lots more I’d love to share the stage with.

10. What advice would you give to an aspiring musician from Atlantic Canada that you wish you had when you started your music career?
Pay for things yourself and don’t wait on funding or industry help… Just hit the streets and do the work yourself.
