Cape Fest taking a break in 2015 as Martin Entertainment alters focus

Cape Fest will not return to Sydney in 2015.

Earlier this week, promoters Martin Entertainment announced that the festival will be taking a break, citing a lack of government support and a competitive market.

“We want our beautiful island of Cape Breton to not only be known for its splendour, but also as a destination for major events, such as Cape Fest. However, sometimes in smaller towns such as Sydney, it is difficult to get noticed. Shows and events like Cape Fest need support, not only from the fans but also from the Provincial government and other parties.” the organization said on their Facebook page.

Alex Martin told The Cape Breton post that in order to return in 2016, government support will be needed.

“What it was is we got wind of the announcement(AC/DC in Moncton) and we knew we weren’t going to get the provincial support that we feel like we need, and we just knew then and there the show just cannot happen. It cannot happen in 2015 and it won’t happen in 2016 unless we can get some sort of commitment from the province.”

Martin did clarify that this isn’t the end for his company. He told the Post that he would be working on arena shows in the future, which typically takes a few months.

Cape Fest 2014 saw performances by Aerosmith, Slash and more. The city has seen arena shows such as Elton John, The Tragically Hip, Celine Dion and more.

Atlantic Canada Rocks were proud media sponsors of Cape Fest 2014.

So, now, the question is, who do you want to see in Cape Breton, be it outdoor or arena?
