PRESS RELEASE: Fall lineup for Glasgow Square Theatre announced! (Home of the Jubilee)

Star Studded Fall Lineup unveiled for Glasgow Square Theatre

NEW GLASGOW, September 9, 2013– Glasgow Square Theatre, home of the New Glasgow Riverfront Jubilee, has released a star studded entertainment lineup for the 2013 fall season.

“We are very proud and excited to welcome these extraordinary artists and acts that are among the best in the East Coast and Canadian entertainment scene as well as a variety of genres,” says Carlton Munroe, New Glasgow’s Program and Events Manager and Manager of Glasgow Square.

Kicking off the new season on September 21 is Pictou County native Peter Anthony, who returns to the Square stage with his clever standup comedy routine.   Since his last visit to the Glasgow Square Theatre, comedian Peter Anthony has been tearing up the comedy scene in Canada.  Peter is sure to present a night of big laughs as he performs his popular Nova Scotia and Pictou County-themed “coming home” material during his brand new standup comedy show that he takes from coast to coast.

On October 10, East Coast songwriting legend Lennie Gallant graces the Glasgow Square stage. Recognized by his peers as one of Canada’s best performing songwriters, Gallant has released nine albums (seven in English and two in French), which have garnered him scores of awards and nominations from both the Juno Awards and the East Coast Music Association.

Beatlemania nostalgia will reign on October 19 when REPLAY The Beatles comes to town. REPLAY is Canada’s most authentic, exciting and compelling Beatles tribute. Other tribute bands wear the suits and play the songs, but none can match The Beatles’ aura and magnetism quite like REPLAY.  Most people say they actually felt they were watching The Beatles. REPLAY plays over 32 of the most favourite Beatles songs such as She Loves You, Help!, Yesterday, Penny Lane, Get Back, Hey Jude and many more!

On October 30, Joel Plaskett prepares to play the indoor stage at Glasgow Square for the first time with an intimate acoustic performance. Canada has produced some of the world’s most enduring songwriters and Joel Plaskett is considered among the best. With countless awards to his credit, thousands of tour performances, as well as numerous recording and producing projects under his belt, Plaskett remains one of the most innovative and prolific artists on the national music scene today.

Another past Jubilee headliner, The Trews bring their Atlantic Canadian acoustic tour to the Square on November 7.  Sometimes the most exceptional and rewarding things are those you don’t see coming, but are open enough to embrace. Take The Trews’ highly acclaimed acoustic tours, for instance. Although the Toronto-based foursome made its name dishing out intense, raw, yet melodic rock and roll that has won fans and critics worldwide – not to mention heaps of awards and countless radio hits pulled from a clutch of live and studio albums, The Trews serendipitously discovered that turning down the volume actually dialed up the heft.

Yet another East Coast musical icon, Jimmy Rankin takes to the stage of Glasgow Square on November 17.  Beginning with his days in the Rankin Family, and continuing on in a stellar solo career, Jimmy has unquestionably etched his place in the music world as one of the foremost singer-songwriters and performers in the country. Jimmy has also made his mark in the songwriting capital of the world – Nashville.

Join the cast of New Glasgow Youth Theatre Company on November 21 and 22 for their stage production of Gary L. Blackwood’s humorous re-telling of the Grimm Brothers’ folktale, The Goose Girl.  Charming and witty, this award-winning play is sure to delight audiences of all ages.

November 30 marks the CD Release show for Pictou County natives EB Anderson & The Resolutes.  With a deep sound, EB Anderson & The Resolutes’ diversity comes from a vintage country foundation, a keen sense of blues, and songwriting skills that catch the ear of even the most hardcore folk fans. Coming from rural Nova Scotia and currently working the Halifax roots music scene- their sophomore album “Broken Down Horse” was released by Let’s Riot! Music in 2013.

And on December 6, The Stanfields return to Glasgow Square to perform songs from their new acoustic recording, For King and Country.  This project is a departure from band’s well-known raucous rock show, but at the same time a return to the band’s roots.  Expect a superbly crafted selection of original songs presented with an acoustic string-band feel and tight vocal harmonies.

Also, don’t forget about our two annual events – Christmas Serenade with Doris Mason & Friends December 14 and Ghostrider & The Allied Horns New Year’s Eve Bash on December 31.

Tickets for all performances can be purchased at Glasgow Square Box Office, any Ticketpro outlet, online at www.ticketpro.ca or call 1-888-311-9090.
