Ian Fowler, the man behind establishing Moncton as a mega- concert city dead at 53.

Ian Fowler, the visionary who helped build Magnetic Hill into a mega concert venue passed away this morning. He was 53.

Fowler, the General Manager of Economic Development, Tourism and Culture for the City of Moncton was responsible for bringing acts such as AC/DC, The Rolling Stones and U2 to the Magnetic Hill Concert Site which all drew over 50,000 people.

“Ian showed a lot of vision and initiative in moving the city forward. Certainly he was moving force between many of the tremendous successes the city had. It’s going to be a huge loss to the city of Moncton.” Moncton’s mayor George Leblanc said in an interview with the CBC.

While Leblanc says Fowler was ill, he considered his death “sudden”.

Atlantic Canadian music fans will greatly miss this amazing man but will always remember him as the “go getter”, the one that wanted to put us on the world stage. On behalf of all East Coast music lovers, thank you for everything you’ve done Ian, we will miss you sorely.
