Today is Canada Day, the 144th anniversary of the day Canada was formed by a process called Confederation.
Many Canadians will spend today with their family and friends, whether it be going for a hike, soaking up the sun at the beach, or enjoying a cold one on the back deck.
If these types of celebration aren’t for you, you may want to check out some of the world class music that will grace the East Coast. As many readers may be checking this out from various locations around the region, I figured it would be a great idea to outline whats happening all around the Maritimes today.
In Moncton today, April Wine will headline what will be one of the best Canada Day shows this summer in Atlantic Canada.
The Whoa! Canada event will take place under the Moncton City Hall Ped way beginning at 3pm. Joining April Wine will be Ennis, George Belliveau, Chris Kirby and the Marquee, Pow Wow Dancers, plus many more.
Following the rock extravaganza will be the all important Canada Day fireworks taking place over the riverfront beginning at 10pm.
The day will also feature children’s activities, food, as well as an archaeological dig simulation at the Moncton Museum.
“Oowatanite” this will be, and did I mention the word FREE? If your in Metro Moncton, don’t miss it!
So maybe the festivities in Moncton aren’t for you? Do you wish to kick off summer somewhere else? That’s certainly no problem! There are many great Canada Day concerts happening elsewhere on the East Coast, especially in Halifax and Charlottetown.
Just a few hours of driving from New Brunswick or PEI, there will be a massive show on the Dartmouth Waterfront featuring The Trews, The Stanfields, and Hey Ocean.
The Trews take the stage at 8:15pm.
With The Trews having just released their new CD ” Hope & Ruin” to much fanfare, this show is sure to be a must see for any Trews fan.
The Halifax Canada Day celebration will also be free and feature plenty of food, FIREWORKS and children’s activities.
Many East Coasters will find themselves travelling to PEI this weekend for what is hyped as the largest Canada Day celebration on the East Coast.
Night two of the Charlottetown SummerFest will be taking place tonight featuring Eddie Money, Charlie A’Court as well as Nudie & The Turks.
SummerFest is a ticketed event and tickets for Eddie Money will run you $39 at the door or $89 for the weekend pass. Meat Loaf and Haywire will take the stage to close the festival tomorrow night.
Charlottetown’s Canada Day celebration will feature the “largest fireworks display” in the East and this will be a free event.
So, what will it be? Rocking out at home? Heading off the mainland?
No matter what choice you make today, there is great rock to be had wherever you go. There’s still time, so if you want to take a trip, hop in the car and go!
