Ronnie James Dio dead at 67 after a six month battle with stomach cancer

Today, I interrupt concert talk to deliver some very sad news. Ronnie James Dio is dead at 67 after a six month battle with Stomach Cancer. His illness and health had forced Heaven & Hell to cancel their summer tour.

Often regarded as the God Father of metal, Dio was extremely influential and played with many bands throughout his career but is perhaps most famous for being a member of Black Sabbath, and for fronting his own band which he simply called “Dio”.

Dio was hospitalized recently and stayed at a Houston hospital until his death.

His wife, Wendy, posted the following message on Dio’s official website:

Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May.
Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes
before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he
was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have
all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this
terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever. Wendy

Those who have been lucky to see one of his powerful live performances are very lucky, unfortunately, I never saw him, but he had an amazing voice.

This is Atlantic Canada saying- Rest in Peace RDJ, you will be sorely missed in the world of Metal and Rock. Hopefully you’re at peace wherever it is you may be.

What was your most fond memory of RDJ? Post in the comments section.
