Music has WON THE VOTE by a long- shot in yesterdays vote on whether to allow concerts on the Commons past this year. Council overwhelmingly voted to keep them with 19-2 for concerts to stay, thus securing concerts for years to come. This is a great win for music in Atlantic Canada.
Last week- Connaught- Quinpool Councillor Jennifer Watts put forth a movement to ban concerts on the site having them moved to the nearby Garrison Grounds. She thought this was necessary due to athletic disruption and noise.
Earlier in the day, council approved in principal $3.5 million in upgrades for the North Common over the next decade. The upgrades were ratified after Watts’ motion was defeated.
According to HRM Real Property Planning Manager Peter Bigelow, the upgrades include new lighting, expanded and improved pathways, public art opportunities and a central fountain redesign.
There will be a country festival held August 6th-7th featuring Alan Jackson, however an announcement for a second rock festival, could come next Tuesday according to reports.
Stay tuned to AtlanticCanadaRocks for ALL the details on the upcoming announcement!
