  • U2 Moncton deal near final?

Sources which prove to be extremely reliable have hinted to Atlantic Canada Rocks that U2 may be very close to inking a deal to play Moncton this summer.

The show, which is said to be taking place on Saturday, July 30th 2011 at the Magnetic Hill concert site could attract upwards of 80,000 people, potentially quashing The Rolling Stones' record in 2005.

We see this July 30th date as being extremely likely, as it is a Saturday, has been brought up with several other sources, and fits into their tour schedule.

A U2 show rumour is not unheard of here, as talks to bring the Irish rock band have been taking place since as early as 2005, just after the Stones played the largest outdoor venue in Atlantic Canada.

Fans have been waiting long for this day to come, and will pour into Moncton to see possibly the biggest show in our history.

It seems maybe U2 has "found what they are looking for" in a concert deal and we can hopefully look forward to seeing them.

U2 has been on their 360 Tour for over 2 years now, with the tour continuing into 2011. Before the July 30th date, the band has a show in Pittsburgh, taking place on the 27th.

Are you excited? Will you finally find what your looking for after you've seen U2 live?

"Fans have been waiting long for this day to come, and will pour into Moncton to see possibly the biggest show in our history" -- Sorry, Moncton will never see a concert which will reach or exceed the magnitude of Septeber 3, 2005's Rolling Stones concert... I am not only referring to the attendance, I am referring to that whole weekend. Moncton turned into Stonesville... that outpouring will never happen for another band. Don't get me wrong, I'll welcome U2!! ... For The Stones to come the East Coast was plain and simple, "unheard of"... now, that they have left their mark, they have paved the way for Mega Shows to come to Moncton, and the East Coast. When Big acts come now, it is no longer a 'shock' for little ol' East Coast of Canada... there is excitement, but it is no longer 'new' if you will. Even when the Stones came to Halifax the following year, it didn't have that 'spark' like when they came to Moncton.

Moncton (And the East Coast) has already seen the biggest show in their history. The Greatest Rock and Roll band in the world... and never forget it.

I think that this is an amzing opportunity to showcase not only an amazing show, but also our Maritime Hospitality. I am just glad that I have my hotel booked prior to the big announcement.

Okay first of all, they will not even come close to AC/DC. Sure, the stones had 85,000 attendees, but they also had about 8 bands opening for them which attracts a more diverse crowd. Not to mention that there were probably 100,000 people at the acdc concert, after all the gates did come crashing down(70,000 "ticket sales". A lot of people went to the stones just to see the hip, whereas Ac/dc was just ac/dc (no one gave a shit about the opening acts). Ac/dc has been around forever and has a widely diverse fan base, where-as U2 doesn't. Personally i cannot stand U2 and I know a lot of people feel that way as well. If your going to put on a show at magentic hill, you need die-hard fines that arent afraid to get a little muddy, drunk, and dirty. U2 fans are probably the older type, who sip wine instead of: ending up blacked out on a lawn with a beer in your hand, pissing on the side of the roadway to the concert site (like the majority of the people at the hill for acdc).. need i go on? I just cant see U2 fans walking 2 miles for a show.. or sleeping in a camp ground(like we did). I mean come'on, U2 fans are not and will not be as die-hard as ACDC and stone fans. MAGNETIC HILL = ROCK, and when i think of U2 as rock, i get vertigo.
Case and point: the eagles concert. 55,000 Attendees, thats one -20,000 stadium less than acdc's attendees and about one and a half of the stones.
the black eyed peas. I also predicted that show would be a sham, and what happened? More tickets were given away than sold, and it actually put Mackay out of business.

Here's the thing, U2 may or may not be what everyone calls their "best" show. I feel that U2 however, has the ability to fill Magnetic Hill which will bring a lot of economic benefits.

ACR Reader, I simply love how opinionated you are! I believe in what you have said. I shall never view U2 in the same way that I view AC/DC simply because of the large amount of differences and the fans. I somewhat feel that U2 can kind of hold their own but they can't even hold a match to anything AC/DC is and what they have amounted to. Simply put, U2 is like a child, while AC/DC is the rocking out older brother and it shall always be that way. Plain and simple.

Personally, U2 is my favorite band in the world. I'll be going crazy if they announce U2 360 at the Hill this summer. I agree, it would be great if many bands would be part of this event (festival-style), connecting to a range of musical tastes. In reality, any major concert is good for Moncton; I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for U2...Cheers!

What really pisses me off about these threads is that you all compare which bands got the most people, wake up who cares that the Stones got 85000, Eagles got 50000, AC/DC got 70000!

Are you serious? what an ignorant post that is...
I am a U2 fan and have been for years..i would walk 2 miles to see u2...i dont sip wine..i chug it down. I have slept in many campgrounds in my life too...You are ignorant to discriminate against U2 fans like that.. The fact of the matter is U2 is a great band who makes intelligent rock music.. No other band in the world right now would outsell U2 at the Hill..including acdc or the Stones...Talk to anyone who has seen them live...they are the best live performing band in the world today and if they should come here in Moncton, they will deliver an amazing show that people will remember for years.. I would love to see a Rush/U2 concert at the hill...here to hoping it happens..cheers

Not sure what you mean..... however I have stayed at the campground (Concert Camping) and they had all walks of life. From the diehards to the wine sippers. I think that U2 would be a great act to come to Moncton. They do have the largest area to hold a concert like this.

Really you are a loser if you end up blacked out on a lawn with a beer in your hand, pissing on the side of the roadway. Grow up.

the field is available, they brought Bon Jovi and it was a success. moncton has the land and they might as well use it for something. At least they would not give as many tickets away!!

I was being fucking sarcastic about blacking out, and how many tix did bon jovi sell? Oh .. thats right, 33,000. Half of the "recorded ac/dc ticket sales", and U2 will be the same damn thing. Waste of a potential 80-100,000 Ticket sales for a good show like the boss, or tom petty, metallica..

U2 would probably bring over 85000 fans at the hill..they are the most successful touring band out there.. There arent any bands that would draw more than u2 would at the hill..do your homework..
